Cantoria: CMS-Powered Sacred Music Website

For a worship leader I have developed a brand and created an accompanying website to serve as a platform for expressing the importance of Jewish Sacred Music and Cantorial leadership, using audio and text. The site is a “Digital Garden,” which is a variation on a blog and which is designed for an agile approach to content creation.

Solution

  • Brand Design: Brainstorming the site mission, followed by branding development including site name, domain, and slogan
  • CMS selection: selected with a priority on the end-user
  • CMS customizations: edited the core PHP code to enable features that were claimed to work
  • Footnotes: Designed and coded a custom footnote technology to avoid blindly linking out to external sites (the way The Guardian does)
  • Theme: Selected theme and customized by replacing hard-coded values with CSS variables
  • Content: Researched and wrote initial content for site launch, from articles to terms of use pages
  • Audio: Recorded and engineered sample audio for the site
  • Imagery: Photography and image editing
  • Data solution: flat-file, no-database (the CMS default)
  • Web Technologies: PHP, HTML, CSS, XML, JavaScript, jQuery, Markdown for content
  • CMS: Bludit flat-file CMS
  • Hosting: Nginx server on Linux
