WordPress Admin Dashboard Utilities

I’m open-sourcing a collection of PHP scripts that bring some of the information that WordPress admins actually need right onto the dashboard. No digging through menus, no hunting through the database. Just the answers, up front.

Why I built these

I ran admin for a WordPress site with over a hundred content editors, and I got tired of context-switching to answer the same questions over and over: Who has what role? What plugins are sitting on updates? What roles have edit permissions for a page? So I built small tools to answer those questions at a glance.

They saved me real time and shaved a lot of cognitive load off my day, and I’m hoping they do the same for you.

What’s inside

  • User, role, and page info surfaced directly on the dashboard
  • Shortcuts you can define to your most-used pages and utilities
  • An in-dashboard list of plugin updates-in-waiting
  • A maintenance notice utility

Important: These scripts are read-only. They never alter your database, so you can run them with confidence.

These are PHP snippets hosted on GitLab and released under GPL, so fork them, tweak them, and make them yours.

A caveat: some of these scripts assume specifics of the old environment and probably will not drop straight into your stack unless you happen to be using the same plugins. Others will work on just about any WordPress install, such as the maintenance notice, shortcuts to your most-used pages, and updatable plugins.

Created on my personal time, and offered as-is for educational use. If these help you get your afternoons back, that’s the whole point.
